Costa Style Orange Hot Chocolate Recipe
Here's my recipe for home made Chocolate Orange Hot Chocolate - just like at Costa or Marks and Spencer!
Every Winter, I become a hot chocolate junkie! I cannot get enough of the stuff. Previously, I haven't been able to get enough of Costa's Black Forest Hot Chocolate. This season, I have become addicted to the Orange Hot Chocolate available in Costa and M&S.
I like to recreate them at home, and thought I'd share my at-home recipe for Orange Hot Chocolate (pictured above-right with my home made Costa style Black Forest hot chocolate on the left).
They are similar in taste, although the Costa one comes with an amazing Chocolate waffle melt on top - I haven't managed to create or source those - YET! I have, however managed to recreate a home made Orange Hot Chocolate, which is almost identical to in store ones.
This recipe is my concoction which is pretty close to the store bought drinks I have been inhaling every day for the past 6 weeks!
To make 1 drink, You Will Need:
- 2 heaped tsp Cocoa (NOT Hot Chocolate - it's not the same)!
- 250ml Milk (I prefer skimmed but the stores use Semi Skimmed as standard)
- 30ml Monin Orange Syrup (Available from Amazon)
- Sugar or sweetener to taste
- Aerolatte milk frother (Available from Amazon)
1). Heat the milk. (This takes approximately 3 minutes in our microwave, but keep an eye on it as it varies).
2). While the milk is heating, add the cocoa and Monin Orange Syrup to your glass.
3). Once the milk is warm, add a dash (around 30ml) to the glass and stir until smooth, then return the remaining milk to the microwave.
4). Once the milk is hot, half fill the glass with the hot milk and stir well.
5). (Optional) Froth the remaining milk using a milk frother (We use an Aerolatte Milk Frother).
6). Add this to the glass - holding back the foam.
7). Sweeten to taste (I add 1 teaspoon of sugar and stir well).
8). Add the froth to the top of the drink and then gently stir. (It'll then look like the image below-right).
