Dreaming of the Bahamas
Find out why I would love to visit the Bahamas
I haven’t been abroad since 2010, and am finding myself dreaming of jetting off more and more. One of the places I have dreamed of visiting for a long time is the Bahamas. I am finding myself frequently distracted when I’m at my desk. Instead of working, I am browsing sites and researching the Bahamas.
In case you weren’t aware, the Bahamas is made up of over 700 islands, and over 2,000 rocks and cays. The entire area is surrounded by over 100,000 square miles of stunning, Caribbean Sea, and is an ecological oasis, which boasts the clearest water on earth!
The Bahamas is made up of 31 districts, and the one at the top of my wish list to visit is Exuma. I have already found some incredible Exuma Rentals and have narrowed down my pick of Villas to two choices - depending on my budget! My theory is you’ve got to dream big when planning a once in a lifetime trip!
Over Yonder Cay is an absolutely stunning arrangement of luxury villas on a private island! Imagine having an entire island to yourself! That’s my idea of absolute heaven. Most people take “getting away from it all” to mean work and mundane life. For me, it’s literally everything. People, technology, all of it!
When you book Over Yonder Cay, you get the entire island to yourself, and the price you pay will vary depending whether you want use of just 1 to all 4 villas. The island sleeps up to 30 guests and prices start from £34,481 PER NIGHT! (I’ll definitely need to win the Euromillions to get a holiday here, but what’s the point in making a wish list if you can’t dream a little)?
Over Yonder Cay boasts 15 bedrooms and 12 bathrooms, so there’s plenty of room for the kids! It has a beachfront location and stunning pools. The fifteen bedrooms are spread out over four separate Villas, which makes Over Yonder Cay perfect for groups of friends or family travelling together.
Median House is made up of 4 honeymoon-worthy suites with king Size beds, en-suite bathrooms and jetted baths. West Sands and East Cove each have four bedrooms: two of them feature king size beds with en-suite bathrooms, and two with queen size beds, which share a bathroom. South Point is the smallest house and has one king size bedroom with a private en-suite, and two bedrooms with queen size beds and a shared bathroom.
Included in the price is a full staff, VIP airport transfers, use of 6 boats (with crew included), your own personal chef, butlers, massage therapists, daily maid and laundry service and much much more. As once in a lifetime experiences go, Over Yonder Bay is definitely up there on my wish list!
Sweetwater Villa at Fowl Cay is definitely a more modest option. This stunning Villa sleeps up to 6 people and has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. The Villa is located on the beachfront of Fowl Cay Island. You can opt to rent all 6 Villas on this island together or rent them individually for a more affordable break.
Sweetwater Villa will set you back from £2856 per night to rent. You get a lot for your money though…
The Villa boasts Air conditioning, Satellite TV, DVD player, iPod dock, Wi-Fi access, Shared washer/dryer, Toys, Games, Full kitchen, Cooler, Baby Cot, High chair, Booster seat, playpen/travel cot, Exercise equipment, Pool table and a Dart board - so there’s plenty to keep the kids AND grown ups entertained!
Your holiday also includes use of the Shared pool, Alfresco shower, Outdoor furniture, Tennis equipment and court, Bocce court, Horseshoes, Snorkeling equipment, Fishing equipment, Life jackets, Kayaks, Motorised boat for exploring (fuel included), Hawaiian paddle boards, and a Golf cart – as long as you have a valid driver’s license.
On top of all that, you also get unlimited premium drinks, Dinner served each night in the Hill House Restaurant, a fully stocked villa pantry (for your breakfast, lunch, and snacks), fresh pastry basket each morning, Chef-prepared picnic lunch, and Housekeeping each day.
So despite being significantly cheaper than my first choice, it would still be the holiday of a lifetime in my opinion. Imagine only having to share the resort pool with 3 other families - AT THE MOST! Also, your evening meal will be served in a restaurant with just 3 other tables. AMAZING! No queueing for drinks either, and no need to budget for them as premium drinks are all included in the cost of your holiday!
Lindon Villa is on the same island as Sweetwater Villa, and boasts all of the same amenities and facilities. Lindon Villa is much smaller though, and only sleeps two adults - SORRY KIDS!
Realistically, the chances of us ever being able to afford a trip to the Bahamas while the kids are still living at home are minimal, so it would make more sense for us to have a goal in mind. I think if we planned to spend a week here for, say our 25th Wedding anniversary, it would be just about doable.
Lindon Villa costs from £1314 per night, so a week would cost around £10,000 including flights.
Our 25th Anniversary is in 2035, so we’ve got plenty of time to save up.
Do you have any dreams or wishes for a once in a lifetime holiday?
